FAUX PAINTING - MARBLE AND MARBLEIZING

MA-2 - CARDED DRIFT

The concept of drift marble is floating masses of color.  Color dissipates into and through other colors without defined boundaries due to gradual changes in density and mass and is never abrupt.  Drifts convince the viewer that the areas of color repeat and have depth. Carded veining demonstrates removing glaze and allowing the background/basecoat to appear as a contrasting color, versus painting in a vein.  This technique is particularly attractive on eye-catching details such as columns.

Where painted marble or abstract marbleizing, a realistic or simply colorful pattern of natural stone effects are within your reach for any surface imaginable. Marbling to coordinate with existing surfaces or objects in your home is a wonderful solution for where real marble is not available.

MA-8 - BRECCIA

Breccia typifies a class of marble which is very veiny with many small fragments vs. larger defined lozenges.   In this sample finish, color shifts representing differing mineral content, mineral deposit veining and stress fractures.  Breccia can be highly colored or monochromatic.  Any color desired renders beautifully.

MA-3 - MODIFIED CARRERA

Versus traditional Carrera, this finish blends soft, washy, pastel colors and shades that harmonize and glow.  As the use of color is unofficial (I.e. Carrera is usually devoid of such color), a unique combination suited to balance the room and furnishings is recommended.

DW1-4E - RIDGE-VEINED MARBLE

A simple, elegant, yet complex marble rendering.  The use of one color enhances the delicate and intricate result with a combination distinct veining and color gradation.  Painted marble is usually done as an accent, on architectural detail, or as part of furniture.

DW1-22 - GLAZING AND PALETTE DECO

A complex, deeply toned specimen, Red Jasper is a very traditional marble.  Actually, it is more of a semi-precious stone in the quartz family.  This finish is accomplished by building many layers to provide its depth.  The yellow/orange peek-throughs of color remind many of deeply embedded agates.

MA-9 - TRAVERTINE

Travertine marble is a sedimentary mineral, I.e. it is composed of layers and deposits which have settled over time and under great pressure.  It striped effect represents various materials.  Traditional colors are in the off-whites and beiges to the creams and yellow.  Travertine looks best when rendered as a flat panel, representing a slice of a larger quarried rock.

MA-6 - FRESCO VEINED SIENNA

The delicate small, twisting veins in this finish provide beautiful depth and help emphasize the spatial effect balanced by the white areas.  A very 3-dimensional look.

MA-4 - SERPENTINE

Serpentine marble is a dramatic green with strong white veins and an emphatic texture created by alternating dark and light areas. It can be tinted to any hue without disrupting its beauty due to its well-recognized structure which looks like something that has been repeatedly smashed until the pieces are no longer recognizable vis-à-vis each other and their original placement. Its veins are delicate, wandering lines of changing widths.  Works well in bathrooms as well as on architectural details.
